Linda Loh was invited to be one of several curators for an innovative curatorial project organised by a decentralised group called Lonely Rocks. The curators and founders represented every continent in the world, apart from Antarctica.
An exhibition of new media art about expanded self-portraiture was organised for Untitled Art Fair, Miami Beach 2022, as part of their Nest sector for young galleries and non-profit organizations.
Here is the introduction for curator Linda Loh, and why as an abstract artist, with her curiosity about the nature of self, she brings a unique angle to this project.
Linda Loh’s contribution to the project, “I”,
“I”, HD video 1080×1920. 5 mins 10 secs. This is a portrait of the idea of “self”, comprising my own imagery that looks like the letter “I”. As this non-narrative work evolved, a multitude of thoughts and allusions arose, my own projections now embedded within it: Who am I? What is self? Where is self? Ephemeral and elusive moments, in and out of the physical realm; everyday earthly items blurring into otherworldly spectres, a rhythmic motion, like a heartbeat; totemic, scarab-like forms merge in and out with anatomic bodily shapes, centres of the body-mind, watery birth, channels, ascension, the symbol of the mirror, luminous dreamy interiority. A self portrait of a human prototype – ethereal and intangible.
